Editorial policy
Grand News Compass aims to make geography and place literacy clear without overstating what a map, name or example can tell us. We explain our reasoning, mark uncertainty and correct errors plainly.
Accuracy and context
We check names, definitions and geographic explanations against suitable source material before publication. We distinguish established facts from interpretation, explain when a map is simplified, and avoid presenting one region's conventions as universal. When a detail is uncertain or depends on context, we say so rather than filling the gap with a confident guess.
Independence
Editorial decisions are made for readers, not to secure a commercial placement. A partnership does not determine our conclusions, category choices or coverage, and we do not promise favourable treatment in return for support.
Corrections
If you spot a factual error, unclear wording or a broken explanation, contact us with the article title and the passage in question. We review correction requests and update material when warranted; significant changes are identified in the article so readers can see what changed.
Paid and partner material
Paid placements and partner material are clearly labelled where they appear. A label will identify the commercial relationship, and partner content is kept distinct from independent editorial coverage.
A map is a view, not the whole place
We look at the choices behind maps and the details beneath them. The aim is not to memorise every label, but to ask better questions about where we are.
